Then Engabrevatnet, also known as Svartisvatnet, is the place for you. Here, at the foot of Norway’s second largest glacier, Svartisen, an adventure awaits that will take your breath away.

Imagine gliding silently over crystal clear water, surrounded by majestic mountains and a glacier reflecting in the surface. Engabrevatnet is a unique arena for kayaking, where you can experience the rawness and beauty of nature up close.

The paddle trip takes you close to Engabreen, one of the mighty arms of Svartisen. You will see ice formations in every conceivable shade of blue, and maybe you are lucky and will experience ice calving and making spectacular sounds. The silence that surrounds you is broken only by the sound of the oars hitting the water and perhaps the occasional drip from the ice.

Practical information

It is important to check the weather forecast before you go, as conditions can change quickly.
Dress for the conditions(weather), and remember that the water is cold, even in summer.
It is recommended to paddle with experienced guides who know the area.
We and other operators in the area offer guided tours and kayak rentals.
A wet card (external link) is required to rent a kayak on your own.

Meeting point: Meet your guide at Brestua, take the bus from the harbor where the shuttle boat docks. The ticket includes the boat trip to Svartisen, and the bus to Brestua.

The adventure starts at Brestua, where the necessary equipment and training is provided. Life jackets, oars, necessary safety training and basic paddling techniques are reviewed before the trip begins. The trip is suitable for most people and requires no previous experience. The guide provides necessary instructions before you head out onto the water. Our kayaks are tandem type, a double kayak with space for two. These are very safe and stable, and are well suited for those with little or no experience.
