How do I get to Svartisen?
The only way to get to Svartisen and Engenbreen is by boat.
tilSvartisen drives a regular route across the Holandsfjord from the end of May to the beginning of September, see route information.
The boat Oksøy runs scheduled trips from Holandsvika, just off the main road about 1000 meters south of the tourist information, to Svartisen. The trip from Holandsvika across the Holandsfjord takes about 15 minutes and is certainly part of the experience that awaits.
Unable to get to Holandsvika?
If you are unable to get to Holandsvika, we have trips from Ørnes and Furøy camping from June 26th to August 9th, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday with our RIB Isprinsessa. read more here: Rib from Ørnes
Shuttle boat
Where can I buy the tickets?
Tickets can be purchased upon boarding and online. Book your ticket online here.
Do I have to reserve space/tickets?
It is not necessary to reserve a seat, but it may be a good idea to secure a seat on the departure you wish to take.
Is the ticket valid for one way only?
The boat ticket is valid for a round trip to Holandsvika. The ticket is valid all day until it is used.
Can I bring my own bike on board the boat?
Yes, our new vessel Oksøy has plenty of deck space. You will also need to buy a ticket for your bicycle. See prices under timetable.
How do I get to the shuttle boat?
The shuttle boat is located about 2.5 hours south of Bodø. Follow road RV80 to Tverlandet and then turn off onto FV17. You can also take the express boat to Ørnes. There it is possible to rent a car from Joker Reipå, contact them directly on mobile: +47 90682975. There are also regular bus routes from Bodø, these do not correspond with the shuttleboat. Check bus routes on reise.norland.no for more information.
Can I take the car with me?
No, it is not possible to bring your car over.
Is it allowed to bring dogs onboard?
Yes, pets are very welcome on board with us. However, a separate ticket is required for dogs. See prices under route information.
Hike/walk
How can I get to the glacier?
You can book a glacier hike online here.
I want to experiencing something other than a glacier hike.
We offer a number of other activities that can be exciting. For example, we have kayak tours, historical walks and a great sauna by the glacier. Read more about our activities here.
Is the hike suitable for children?
The hike/trip is well suited for children. It can be challenging to get up the slippery rocks if it rains. Several people choose to take their children along in a baby carriers.
How long does it take to walk to Tåkeheimen?
The hike/walk to Tåkeheimen takes around 3.5-4 hours one way. There may be little water to be found around the cabin if the snow has melted. We therefore recommend bringing your own water.
How long does it take to walk to Helgelandsbukken?
From Tåkeheimen to Helgelandsbukken it takes about 1 hour. There is some climb at the start but otherwise good terrain. Can be difficult to find early in the season as there is usually a lot of snow in the mountains.

Can I stay here overnight?
Yes. There are several options for accommodation at Svartisen. Check our website for availability. Several people also use tents in the area. If you wish, you can pay to use the shower and toilet facilities at Brestua.

Useful information
Where can I park my car?
It is possible to park in Holandsvika where the boat docks, as well as at the Tourist Information about 1km further north.
Toilets and showers?
There are toilets and showers at Brestua and down by the dock at Svartisen. You can pay for showers online by scanning the QR code on the dock
I want to enjoy a meal, where can I do that?
Nyt Svartisen is the operator of Brestua, more information and opening hours can be found here.
In addition to Brestua, there are opportunities to buy simple kiosk goods at the kiosk on the dock. This is regularly open in route 2. It is also possible to buy souvenirs at Brestua.
